Bestaande USB poort voor je dashcam gebruiken

Using existing USB port for your dashcam

, by Allcam dashcams, 1 min reading time

Nowadays, many newer cars are already equipped with a USB port as standard, or do not even have a cigarette input at all to connect the dashcam to. However, connecting a dashcam via such an existing USB port in your car does not work well in most cases. These USB ports usually provide only 0.5A but most dashcams require at least 1.5A.

There are some exceptions, for example, some newer Skodas have a USB port in the interior mirror specifically for connecting a dashcam. Before connecting the dashcam, check the car's manual to see if the USB port provides sufficient power for dashcam use.

If you don't have a suitable power point to connect the dashcam to, you can use a hardwire kit that can be connected to the car's fuse box. An additional advantage is that such a hardwire kit allows you to use the parking mode on many dashcams, which is usually not possible with the standard cigarette power supply.
