The sensor on a dashcam is like the human eye; it is the place where light enters to be later processed into moving images. The sensor consists of several light-sensitive elements that together create the most realistic image of reality.
Together with the chip, the sensor in a dashcam is the most important indicator of image quality. The best-known manufacturer of image sensors is Sony. Sony's sensors are also used in GoPro action cameras, for example.
